Well Its January 2012 and we have seen some signs of demand picking up in our seedling protection division here at Quadel Industries. While we are not at the levels seen in the boom periods of the last couple of decades, we are starting to see some increase.
The seedling protection market is a good indicator of the demand for timber around the world. When economies start to warm up a bit, the building/construction sectors will often be one of the first areas to see growth.
Which means more lumber is needed for building, so forest managers start to harvest more tress and of course they need to replace those trees with new seedlings.
And that’s where Quadel Industries comes in as one the premier Manufactures of Seedling Protection Products. Our Seedling Protection products ensure that Forester’s most valuable resource and investment is protected during the trees vulnerable time as a seedling.
It appears at this time that the slight increase in demand is coming from counties like China, India and Japan. The US economy is still on shaky ground and its housing market still in shambles , which doesn’t bode well for the domestic construction industry.
All of which equates to little demand for timber, lumber and other building materials that go into building homes, shopping malls and home improvement projects.
The Increase in demand from China is supposed to continue into 2013, and 2014 as China continues to grow and expand its middle class and populations and India seems to be second in that race to capitalism and expansion.
Japan’s demand seems to be coming from the rebuilding of the homes and infrastructure lost in the devastating earth quakes and tsunamis of last year.

In this Article from the Department of Agriculture , the question is posed as to whether seedling protection tubes can actually damage conifer seedlings or young trees.
After looking at the article , it does sound like good advice to keep an eye the seedling tubes and remove them if they are Causing harm to the tree , but it would depend on the environment as to whether seedling protectors Are Causing damage to seedlings or young trees.
Here in the pacific northwest this does not seem to be an issue. Quadel industries has been working with the major forestry companies Who are Buying tubes year after year without any negative effect , the growing conditions are so good , nothing stops trees around here and if there were “Any “ significant damage we would be hearing about it .
In the images you see some obviously older trees with remnants of the tubes still in place with no ill effect at all. Again growing conditions here in the northwest are unique and is the reason timber is such big industry here.
That being said in drier less hospitable environments , there may be different results , which is one of the reason we have Developed our BIO Tubes. Working with EPI global a leader in developing Bio degradable additives for plastic we can MFG Tubes so they only have a 24-36 year life span which may suit a specific environment better and gives forestry and silviculture Professionals some better options.
